Pop Up Exhibition at February 8, 2025

Application Deadline January 17th 2025

In this workshop, participants will work on understanding photo books, which have become an integral phenomenon of the contemporary photography world and each of which has a story that opens to a different world with its own concept, fiction, rule, sequence, design and material selection. Workshop participants will also obtain information on subjects such as concept creation, unlimited possibilities of editing and sequence processes, page design and right material selection, and will produce original photo-zines using their own photo archives as a source.

The workshop will be held every day between 11:00-19:00 at NOKS Art Space Kadıköy, each workshop will last 8 hours per day for a total of 3 days. The workshop program is as follows.

Day 1: In the morning, there will be a presentation on photobooks and photozines. In the afternoon, we will continue with the examination of photobook and zine samples. Afterwards, each participant will make a short presentation of their photobook project or the photographs they have and receive comments.

Day 2: Each participant must bring a 7x10 cm print of the photos they submitted digitally. The workshop instructor will work with each participant individually, give feedback on their projects, develop a concept, and use the small prints to sequence and edit the photozine.

Day 3: The projects that have been sequenced will be arranged in the indesign program and cover designs, imprint placements and photozine names will be added and pdf export will be taken to get both the inside pages and the cover prints. The prints taken will be sent to the bookbinder and the final cutting process will be done after the photozines are bound with thread stitching.

The workshop participation fee is €100. The fee includes the cost of 2 photozines, sized 13 x 18 cm on Riso paper with an average of 20-32 pages, printed on a single form, with a cover print on 300 gr matt coated paper, covered with foil and stitched by a bookbinder. One photozine will remain in the NOKS Books Library to be included in future photozine exhibitions.

The 4th day on saturday there will be an opening of a pop up exhibition and presentation of the zines to the public at NOKS Art Space.
